Uber India bookings touch $1.6 billion, 11% of worldwide rides

India, December 06, 2018 :  Uber, which has recognized India as a precedence market has touched annualized bookings fee of $1.64 billion within the third quarter, according to a news report which quotes an inside e-mail from Uber’s India head Pradeep Parameswaran to CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and CFO Nelson Chai among different executives.  

India is Uber’s only main market in Asia after it bought its operations in China, Russia and eight other countries across South East Asia. According to a report by CNBC through email, mentioned that India now accounts for 11% of all the San Francisco based ride hailing firm's trips internationally. The number however, indicates only gross bookings and not actual income for Uber or its profits, if any. 

Parameswaran mentioned that Uber will close the year in its “strongest place ever— because the ride-sharing chief in India.” He mentioned  the company doubled its engineering team as of the third quarter and plans to double again next year in its two large hubs of Bengaluru and Hyderabad. 

The report added that the e-mail mentioned that the India business increased by 1.5 million new customers by means of Uber Lite, a stripped down model of the app which works in low community areas.

He additionally mentioned that Uber Eats grew sevenfold over the previous four months, capturing approximately 20% of the India market in simply 18 months.
